Physically Impaired and Wheelchair-bound Visitors

Audio Guides

Kiosk for Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

Our audioguides have the following features:

  • Hands-free using neck lanyard so that a solo wheelchair or frame user can use their audio guide and keep their hands free.
  • Two headphone sockets (e.g. extra one for the ‘carer’ or ‘pusher). To achieve this we normally use an extended length headphone cable.

For those with additional impairment then obviously a Visually Impaired tour can be used.

Videoguides

Where access is an issue it is possible to create a virtual tour on a Video Guide for visitors who cannot get to see some or all parts of a tour in person. This can be much more effective than providing a single virtual tour kiosk. If a visitor is also hearing impaired they could use a signed tour.

Other Systems e.g. Kiosks

Bespoke design of accessible interactive kiosks (Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery below), posts and Virtual Tour content and displays eg. the Inniskillings Regimental Museum.

Specialist Content

Using ATS’s multimedia team we have created complete, full length, films. The example below is from a film developed for HMS Victory and fully presented, narrated, and comes with sub-titles.
