Databases
One of the core competencies for museum staff is to be able to archive, track and retrieve data on their collections. At ATS, we offer solutions to help with such organisation of metadata as well as its presentation, all packaged within an easy-to-use and maintain framework.
We created two examples when working at Hampstead Museum: there we wrote a complete database package for their collection’s acquisitions. A second database for Hampstead drew upon this parish’s Famous People: this meant curators could set up and maintain a register of famous residents adding images and other information drawn from their collection or other as they were acquired. A map-based interface enabled visitors to identify the residents of a particular street address then pull up the all the museum’s data on that person.
Later, ATS developed a new database of ex-servicemen who’d served with the Inniskillings Regiment in Northern Ireland. The web-based interface enables visitors to and relatives to retrieve images, official service records and other media and documents for each entry.
For our Orpheo NEO handhelds, we can offer mini-databases within our programming of Talking Guides software thus allowing visitors even greater resources as they tour a site or collection.
ATS's inhouse skillset means that we can offer integration with existing databases or repurposing such assets for use in other platforms. As dynamic software developers, we are always seeking new and unique opportunities and add value to our client services.
