The passing of the Disability Discrimination act in 1995 gave disabled people more rights in several areas, including access to services. As a result Museums and Galleries now have to take steps to make their exhibitions easy for disabled people to use. At ATS Heritage we have taken various disabilities in to consideration when designing our products. We have a number of ready made solutions and are happy to work with you to create something to your specific requirements. Here are some of the products that we have available, all of which can be adapted to suit different needs.

For Inniskillings Museum that was part of a touchscreen system, the system was installed with access in mind and the tour was made available in a number of text sizes and colour ways. This enabled partially sighted users, who are able to select their own preferences. The tour itself was designed to enable visitors to see parts of the Museum that they might not otherwise be able, and the kiosk was designed to accomodate wheelchair users comfortably.

At Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, the Orpheo Audioguides were used on a tour specially created for visually impaired users. The audio invites users to touch the objects that are exhibited, the Orpheo audioguides are particularly suitable to a tour like this as they are available with 'button free' technology, where the sound is activated by triggers in the Museum.
