Local Company wins major contract for Mary Rose Ship Hall
ATS Heritage, a local Museums and Heritage Design Company based in Clanfield,
has been awarded a major contract to provide Audio Guides featuring the latest
in MP3 technology for the Mary Rose Ship Hall in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
The audio equipment will provide visitors to the Ship Hall with a new adult
tour giving up to date information about the hull of the Mary Rose, Henry VIII's
famous flagship, famously raised in 1982 from the Solent. In addition, ATS will
be producing an audio tour especially written to appeal to younger visitors
and school groups.
The Chief Executive of The Mary Rose Trust John Lippiet said
" The story of the sinking of the Mary Rose, her discovery,
excavation and raising, is known worldwide and the ship hall has been visited
by over 6 million people. Changing the audio guide is a significant improvement
to the visitor's experience of the Mary Rose experience. We know ATS Heritage
well and were impressed by the technology and as the Trust is a Charity, they
had to demonstrate best value for money. ATS performed well on all fronts."
The Mary Rose contract was not the only success that ATS Heritage achieved
having recently won contracts to supply the Derbyshire 'Plague' Village of Eyam,
Mary Kings Close in Edinburgh, Chester Zoo, INTECH, and the REME Museum amongst
others. The Managing Director, Mike Howie, said that the company has the best
order book that it has had for many years and put the achievements down to a
close-knit team of hardworking and professional staff.
ATS Heritage has also achieved recent local success with its new Audio Tour
of Portsmouth due to be launched in Easter. In a joint venture with Portsmouth
City Council the Talking-Guides will be available from Tourist Information
offices in a number of languages.
